Our Impact
Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) is committed to protecting public safety and ensuring the humane care of animals through sheltering, pet placement, education, and animal law enforcement. As Chicago’s only open-admission, municipal animal shelter and control facility, CACC provides a centralized resource for animal-related services for Chicago residents, and promotes the humane stewardship of animals throughout the City.
CACC accepts stray and owner-surrendered animals and also impounds dangerous animals and animals confiscated for various reasons, including abuse and neglect. Many animals arrive at CACC injured, ill, or very scared. While at CACC, they are provided medical attention, fresh food, clean water, and opportunities for socialization, rescue, and adoption.
